Is Silver & Gold Mirroring 1999 to 2011 Again?

Our research team continues to dig into underlying patterns and set up in the global markets to assist skilled technical traders in understanding the current Covid-19 virus event and other key technical data.  Recently, we’ve authored a number of detailed research articles that we believe helped prepare traders for the events of the past 30 to 90+ days.  If you missed them, please take a moment to review some of our critical market research posts:

February 24, 2020: HAS THE EQUITIES WATERFALL EVENT STARTED OR A BUYING OPPORTUNITY?

January 31, 2020: A COMBINATION TOPPING PATTERN IS SETTING UP

December 20, 2019: WHO SAID TRADERS AND INVESTOR ARE EMOTIONAL RIGHT NOW?

Today, we are writing about a pattern our research team is seeing in the Gold/Silver ratio which is correlated to the price movement of Gold.  What does this mean and how can we profit from this setup?  Let’s get started trying to explain this chart pattern/setup.

GOLD:SILVER RATIO CHART FROM A NEW ANGLE

This first chart highlights the pattern we have identified and how we believe a similar pattern is setting up again in the current market.  The setup of the pattern is explained in the text below, but quickly scroll down and look at the first chart and the pink shaded areas “A” to get an idea of what we are talking about.

PRIOR TO “A” PATTERN SETUP

_ After a moderate price decline in Gold (1996 through 2001), a bottom sets up as the price of Gold begins to base near support.

_  The Gold/Silver ratio (BLUE), falls throughout this pattern setup as both Gold and Silver prices decline somewhat in unison.

THE SETUP “A”

_  Gold prices begin to rally moderately while pushing the Gold/Silver ratio higher over an extended period of time (from 1999 to 2003: about 4 years).

_ The Gold/Silver ratio peaks and begins to decline in mid-2003 as the price of Gold continues to rally at a bit more accelerated rate.

_ Gold prices begin a parabolic upside price advance in early 2006 after the Gold/Silver ratio collapses about 18% to 20% from the peak level near 82.50.

We believe a similar type of pattern is setting up right now in the metals market and we believe both Gold and Silver will engage in a price advance over the next 10+ months that may be similar to the post-A set up in mid-2003.  If you are familiar with what happened in the metals market at that time, Silver began to advance at a faster rate than the price of Gold advanced.  This is what caused the Gold/Silver ratio to begin to collapse.

SILVER MONTHLY CHART FROM 1993 TO 2004

This Silver chart from 1993 to 2004 clearly shows how the price of Silver was reacting throughout the setup prior to “A” and after “A” in the chart (above).  Silver began a moderate price advance in 1993 from a level near $3.50 and advanced to a level near $7.50 in 1998.  Then, it began a downside price move to reach new lows in 2002.  At that point, the markets changed.  Gold and Silver began to advance almost in unison with Gold still advancing slightly more than Silver until early/mid-2003.  Once Silver broke dramatically higher, in late 2003-04, the Gold/Silver ratio started breaking downward instead of upward.  This is the pattern we are seeing in the metals market right now.

We believe the recent rotation in the metals market and the dramatic price divergence between Gold and Silver are setting up another similar type of pattern that could prompt both Silver and Gold to rally upward from current levels by at least 200%.

CURRENT SILVER MONTHLY CHART

The extremely deep price retracement on this Monthly Silver chart (below) highlights what we believe is a deep washout low price rotation that is setting up the “disconnect” as we have tried to explain in the Gold/Silver ratio chart and historical Silver chart (above).  Yes, Gold also moved dramatically lower over the past 2+ weeks illustrating the shock to the markets that took place as the Covid-19 virus event disrupted the US and global markets.  But our researchers believe this dramatic washout low in Silver is setting up a much bigger pattern, longer-term than most people understand.

Recently, news that global precious metals suppliers have received a tremendous surge of orders for the physical stock over the past 2+ weeks (source: https://www.msn.com).  In fact, many global suppliers and mints are simply “out of stock” at the moment.  This surge in demand changes the dynamics of the market and how we look at the washout low in Silver.

If demand continues to surge, which we have no reason to doubt at this stage of the Covid-19 virus event, and Silver begins to rally as it did in 2002~2005, then the Gold/Silver ratio will begin to collapse just as it did in 2003~2007 (see the first chart – Post “A”).  This means the demand for metals is skyrocketing and Silver has suddenly become a more “in demand” physical metal than Gold.

You want a reality check on how to trade gold, silver and the stock market in this type of market condition be sure to check this out.

CURRENT GOLD WEEKLY CHART

We believe the next phase of price action in Gold is a move above $1990 as demand for metals continues to surge.  This would represent a 100% Fibonacci price expansion of the last price rally from the lows set in September 2018 (near $1168).  It would also represent a rally from the current level of at least +22.50% in Gold.  Subsequently, if Silver begins to rally at a greater rate than Gold over this same span of time, Silver could rally to levels above $22 representing a +53% price rally according to our Adaptive Fibonacci Price Modeling system (the CYAN target on the chart above).

Pay attention to the Gold/Silver ratio and the price of Silver compared to Gold over the next 30 to 60+ days.  If our research is correct, the current low price of Silver will be a distant memory in less than 60 days and a tandem price advance in both Gold and Silver will propel the metals much higher.  How much higher?  From 2003 to the peak in 2011, Gold rallied 450% (from $350 to over $1900).  Over that same span of time, Silver rallied 1024% (from $4.50 to just under $50).

If we are right about this pattern setup and the future opportunities it may present, we could see Silver trading above $160 per ounce within 4 to 7 years.  Can you guess where Gold would likely be trading if Silver rallied 1000% from current levels?  Don’t miss this next big move in the metals.

When To Get Aggressive With Your Portfolio And Gold Vs Gold Stocks

Chris Vermeulen, Founder of The Technical Traders joins Cory Fleck of Korelin Economics Report to discuss general strategies and market outlook for US stocks and precious metals. He argues that now is still the time to have a cash-heavy strategy.

As for Gold and gold stocks they are still in very different patterns. Gold continues to show strength and the stocks are doing well but still have yet to break out to get him excited.

Reality Check on Trading Equities & Precious Metals

As you may or may not know, the markets have a way of making it extremely difficult to trade in general almost all of the time if you do not have a trading plan.

One of the ways the market likes to pull money from traders is through morning opening gaps. For example, yesterday, the inflow of emails about gold, silver, and gold miners was insane. I keep trying to keep everyone in check with how to handle high-risk, high uncertainty, and volatile times, which, for our case right now, is a cash position for a few more days.

Unfortunately, big moves in price trigger emotions with some of you. It causes you to start trading just because you think you need to trade, which can be for many different reasons I won’t get into here. You should know my stance by now, which is cash is a position, and retaining our capital is more important than trading some times.

I know for a fact that all successful traders have a detailed trading plan, they can control their emotions, are logical, and they wait for opportunities vs. jumping at anything that moves more than normal.

Below is our portfolio equity curve, which we hit an all-time new high just days after the stock market started its crash. Maybe if you see what your portfolio growth curve would look like if you followed my trades, you will finally see the value in CASH.

I don’t trade a lot, and we are in cash when we don’t have any positions. Other times we will have 2 or 4 positions open, but it all depends on the market and volatility. You want trading to be simple, boring, and profitable, trust me on this.

PORTFOLIO GROWTH CHART

AVERAGE PORTFOLIO RESULTS THIS YEAR

Ok, enough of that rant, BACK TO MORING PRICE GAPS!
The stock market loves to do most of the day’s price range and profit potential in a way the average trader is not able to catch the move. Even more so, it is trying to get traders the worst entry or exit price.

New members over time will see and understand this when I talk about these gaps getting faded in my morning videos, which I will explain in a minute. For now, let’s take a look at the price of gold and the market sentiment from yesterday.

Yesterday gold traders were acting like a school of piranha’s. A big one day pop in price is like a drop of blood in the water, and it created a feeding frenzy. There was so much momentum going into the closing bell that the market makers will take advantage of this and walk the price up in pre-market trading the next day and try to reach the next resistance level before the opening bell.

This is what happened to gold, and miners this morning.  Market makers know there are still a ton of gold and miner stock buyers out there who are going to BUY as soon as the market opens, so what happens?

The general public pays the high price, way up at resistance, and the market makers get to sell any access shares they have for a huge profit. After that, the price generally fades (falls) back down, and the majority of buyers that day just bought at the high because of pure emotions and a lack of understanding. This happens for gaps to the downside as well in a similar manner.

Now, keep in mind, this is a very short term price action. The gap may fade down over the rest of the session or a few days, but it does not mean the uptrend is the price is finished longer term.

My point is, the market has a way to get you a bad fill MOST of the time if you do not understand how and why the price moves the way it does. Even if you know all this, sometimes we have no choice to pay the price depending on the trade setup if we want to get into a position. I just wanted to share this small tidbit on how the market moves with price gaps because almost all price gaps fill, fade back down to the previous days high for the stock indexes. Commodities gaps don’t always fill, because they are a very different asset class than equities.

MY CURRENT OUTLOOK AND THINKING FOR GOLD, SILVER, AND MINERS?

In short, gold is the only one in a bull market, and it’s been the definite leader time and time again for the past year almost. It remains in a bull market, and all the money printing/QE, and zero interest rate things are very bullish on metals long term. I like gold a lot, have for a while. I think it’s going higher still as I pointed out in yesterday’s afternoon video, $2600 is my primary target long term. If you didn’t watch yesterdays afternoon video be sure to do so here:

Members video: https://www.thetechnicaltraders.com/memberships/wbn/monday-afternoon-video-update/

As for gold miners and silver, well today is the same story as yesterday, everyone wants to own them and thinks they are missing the train. How you should see these charts and how to best trade them I tell you in yesterday’s afternoon video.

Trading now, in my opinion, is pure speculation and emotionally driven. Sure, you could be right, and this could be the bottom, but as technical traders using rules, logic, and a proven strategy, we are not cowboys trying to pick a bottom to be early. A broken clock is right two times a day. You may get lucky, but because bottom picking without any technical confirmation is a sucker’s (gamblers) game in the long run.

As our portfolio graph above speaks for its self, in that we do not need to catch every move, in fact, we just need to catch a couple of low-risk trades and slowly build our capital.  I was told by one of my mentor traders years ago, once trading becomes slow and boring to you, that’s when you finally understand the market and have a proven trading strategy.

I hope you find this helpful, and if you want this type of info every day, plus my videos, and winning trading strategy, become a member right now!

Cash Is King, Not Gold, Not Bonds

Exactly one month ago, on February 20th, the SP500 made an all-time high and reversed its trend to the downside. What a wild ride the last month has been across virtually all asset classes.

Out of all the major indexes, commodities, and currencies, only one asset and trade moved higher. It’s no surprise given the title that cash or the US Dollar is the asset of choice having rallied over 9% while everything else fell with bonds down 22.75%, stocks 30%-40%, gold miners 58%, and crude down 62%.

My team and I have talked about this rotation to safety into USA/US Dollar) since the lows back in 2018. During the recent stock and commodity price crash, we have seen where investors are dumping their money. It’s not gold, it’s not bonds, but the US Currency. Stocks and commodities are being sold around the globe, and that money is buying up the US dollar.

US DOLLAR RISES ABOVE THE REST
PROOF THE GREENBACK IS STILL THE #1 CURRENCY WORLD WIDE

DAILY S&P 500 INDEX – SUPPORT, BOTTOMING SIGNAL, AND RESISTANCE

The 30+% correction in the ST&P 500 index has been an extraordinary event. Those who have proven trading strategies and abide strictly to position, and risk management rules have been able to not only avoid the market crash but profit and reach new account highs. While those who trade for the thrill, expect oversized gains regularly, and who don’t have a clear trading plan or position management are suffering from the recent selloff.

Last night I watched a great video talking about performance and the winning mindset that both traders and top athletes share. The different ways someone can trade profitably in the markets is fascinating. If you want to be inspired to be a better person and trader, take a look at this video by Real Vision with Dr. Gio Valiante.

Ok, so let us jump into the charts. As a technical analysis and trader since 1997, I have been through a couple of bull/bear market cycles. I have a good pulse on the market and timing key turning points for short-term swing traders and long-term investors.

As you will see from the chart below, I keep things easy for you to see visually and get the idea of what to expect moving forward. The green line is a very significant long term support level on the S&P 500 index. Knowing that price has fallen straight down to this level gives us a much higher chance of a bounce at a minimum.

Trade Tip: The faster the price moves to a critical support or resistance level, the higher the chance you will have a bounce back from that level for a candlestick or three.

The pink arrow on the chart points towards a candlestick pattern, which I call Tweezers. These should be seen as a possible reversal signal.

Lastly, is the red resistance zone. I know it’s a huge range, but at this point, it’s the area we will zero in on once/if price starts to near that level.

30 MINUTE S&P 500 TRADING CHART

This chart is the 30-minute chart of the index and only shows regular trading hours between 9:30 am ET and 4 pm ET. While this is only 1/3rd of the trading day for futures, it is when the majority of contracts/shares are traded, so that is my main focus for analysis.

Since 2001 I have been building and refining my trading strategies to make them somewhat automated. This chart below shows my trend colored chart, which is the basis of my trading for almost all asset classes. What the S&P 500 does directly relates to how I trade or avoid other asset classes.

Recently, we created a market gauge showing you visually where the market is within its 30-50 day price cycle.

When the trend changed, and the bars turned orange on Feb 25th subscribers, and I closed our equities position because they were now out of favor. This allowed us to avoid the market crash through trend analysis, and from our trailing stop order.

FIRST WAVE OF SAFETY WAS IN BONDS

The two charts below of bonds show the same trend and trades but share some different trading tips.

The first 30-minute chart shows a pink line, which was our trend trade. The strategy is to look for large patterns, wait for a trend change, and then take advantage of the new trend. This trade we entered mid-January.

The key points from this chart are to know when the price goes parabolic in any direction and with huge price gaps, know its time to start scaling out of a trade, or close it.

BONDS DAILY CHART – SPOT LARGE PATTERN, TRADE THE BREAKOUT

The second point is that you must have a trading plan and actively manage your trade by moving up protective stop orders, so when price corrects, you are taken out of the trade automatically.

This daily chart of bonds shows the large bullish chart pattern (bull flag). I waited for price to breakout, the trend to turn green, and then entered the trade using Fibonacci extensions for price targets, which I have found are the absolute best way to spot our price targets. If bonds were to rally to the 100% measured move, we would close the trade, and that is what happened exactly.

A few things took place at that price level, which has the charts screaming at me to sell. First, the 100% target was reached. The second was that price was going parabolic with a 10% gap higher above my target, and volume was extremely high, meaning everyone, including their grandmother, were buying bonds. If everyone is buying the same thing, its time to move on to a new chart.

GOLD AND GOLD MINERS AS A SAFE HAVEN

While subscribers of my ETF trading signals and I profited on GDXJ as an early safe-haven trade exiting our position at the high tick of the day before it reversed and fell 58%, most traders I know still hold their gold miner’s positions.

For most of us, it is tough to sell a winning trade, and it is even harder to sell a losing trade. And knowing most trades will turn into a losing trade if you hold them long enough, the odds are clearly stacked against you as a trader.

This pullback in metals and miners, which turned into something much larger than I ever expected, is a huge shock to most people. The reality is history shows during extreme volatility/fear both gold and bonds collapse, and it is nothing new or unexpected.

In fact, I posted a warning that both will fall two days before they topped and collapsed in this special report.

CONCLUDING THOUGHTS:

In short, we are experiencing some unprecedented price swings in the financial system, but other than extra-large market selloffs, and rallies the charts are still moving and telling us the same things for trading and investing.

There are times when the markets are untradable as a swing trader, which is has been the last 15 days because of how them market has been moving. It is a fantastic time for day traders, but with some sectors moving 10-25% a day back to back like the gold miners or crude oil, it is high-risk trading (gambling) right now.

With all that said, my inter-market analysis is pointing to some tradable price action potentially starting next week. The potential is larger than normal because price volatility remains elevated, meaning 10-20% moves over a week or two are expected.

Market Volatility, Safe Havens, Gold, Crude Oil

Have we seen this pattern before?

Be prepared for some really ugly earnings data in Q2 and Q3 of this year, then we’ll figure out if our expectations were accurate or not and what we should be doing to plan going forward.

The type of market condition I think we have entered could be here for a long time, and it’s going to be a traders’ market, which means you must have a trading strategy, plan your trades, and trade your plan. It’s amazing how simple a few trading rules that are written down on paper can save you thousands of dollars a week or month from locking in gains or cutting losses.

I have this mini trading strategy mastery course if you want to take control of your trades and override your emotional issues. And also if you want to start making money from home which is the only option going forward the next 3-6 months from the looks of it my trading as a business program is something to think about doing.

– If you hold winners until they turn into losers

– Taking too large of a position and get stuck with a drawdown so large that if you close the position you will lose 10-50% of your trading account

– have masted the art of buying high and selling low repeatedly?

All these things happen to most traders, and they can easily be overcome with a logical game plan I cover in the crash courses, pun intended 🙂

In short, if you have lost money with your trading account this year giving back years of gains, I think it’s worth joining my trading newsletter so you can stay on top of the markets and if you really want to excel take my mini-courses. I take the loud, emotional, and complex markets and deliver simple common sense commentary and a couple of winning trades each month for you to follow.

My trading is nothing extreme or crazy exciting because I’m not an adrenaline trading junky. I only want to grow my entire portfolio 2-4% a month with a couple of conservative ETF trades. Earning 22% – 48% return on my capital every year without the stress of being caught up in this type of market, and knowing I have a proven bear market trading strategy incase this market continues to fall is a comforting thought.

As a technical analysis and trader since 1997, I have been through a few bull/bear market cycles. I believe I have a good pulse on the market and timing key turning points for short-term swing traders.

Is This A Bear Market When Stocks Crash 20% and Bonds Spike 30%

It is another blood bath in the markets with everything down, including TLT (bonds) and gold. Safe havens falling with stocks is not a good sign as people are not comfortable owning anything, even the safe havens, and this to me is a very bearish sign.

Now, with that said, this is one day one of this type of price action and one day does not constitute a new trend or change the game, but if we start seeing more of this happen, we could be on the verge of the bear market we have all been expecting to show it ugly face.

The SP500 (SPY) is down 19.5% from the all-time high we saw just three weeks ago, and the general bias for most people is once the market is down 20% that is a new bear market. I can’t entirely agree with that general rule. Still, a lot of damage is happening to the charts. If price lingers down here or trades sideways for a few months I will see it as a new bear market consolidation before it heads lower, and we start what could be very deep market selloff and test 2100 on the SP500 index (SPY $210) for the next leg down looking forward several months.

20% STOCK MARKET CORRECTION ARE NOT BEARISH

Just because the markets have a deep correction of 20% does not mean its game over for stocks. Just take a look at the chart below on what happened the last time the market corrected 20%. As you can see, they were the biggest and best investor opportunities over the past 12 years. Today, my friend called and said they heard on the news that we are now officially in a bear market, and what should he do?

20% CORRECTIONS CAN TURN INTO A BEAR MARKET – BE READY

The SP500 fell 20% in 2001 and again from the 2007 high its lows, then bounce 10% – 14 over the next few months before rolling over to start its first bear market leg. I feel something similar will happen this time, which would put us a few months before the price should test these lows again and breakdown to give us optimal time to reposition our long term portfolio.

Once we do start a bear market, you will notice price moves very differently from what we have experienced over the past 12 years. How you trade now likely will be a struggle to make money. If you try to trade bonds, they are relatively tricky because of how they move during a bear market. The stock market can fall for a year, and bonds are still trading at or below the price they were when the bear market started. This different price action is what happened in 2001-2002, and again in 2008.

BONDS GO BALLISTIC

Bonds also take on the price action similar to how the VIX trades with violent price spikes only to fade back down again quickly, and this generally happens near the end of a bear market, or extreme selloff like we are in now. Heck bonds (TLT) jumped 30% just in the past few weeks, we caught it, but most traders missed this move. You need to understanding market sentiment and how to trade bear market type price action because that is how the market is moving this week, and trading/chart patterns become more sentiment-driven than logical trading setups and trades become counterintuitive.

I also traded GDXJ for a 9.5% gain and closed that position at open for the high tick with my followers, and we didn’t follow my proven trading rules for price targets, trailing stops, and reading the market sentiment we could be down over 30% today which I know many traders are simply because they lack control of their trading (no defined rules, fall in love with positions). I’ll be doing a detailed gold and gold miners article so stay tuned!

Be sure to opt-in to our free market trend signals before closing this page, so you don’t miss our next special report!

CONCLUDING THOUGHTS:

I share this analysis, not to scare you, but let you know where we stand. The stock market is treading on thin ice, and if/when it breaks down, a new bear market will have started. Remember, we are still in a bull market, but the coronavirus is stopping businesses, which means earnings will be poor, and that is why stocks are falling. Investors know stocks are worth less money if they make less money; it is that simple.

The type of market condition I think we have entered could be here for a while, a year or three, and it’s going to be a traders market, which means you must have a trading strategy, plan your trades, and trade your plan. It’s amazing how simple a few trading rules are written down on paper can save you thousands of dollars a year from locking in gains, or cutting losses. I have this mini trading strategy mastery course if you want to take control of your trades and override your emotional issues. It’s easy to hold winners until they turn into losers, taking to large of a position, or maybe you have masted the art of buying high and selling low repeatedly? Yikes! It happens to most traders, and it can easily be overcome with a logical game plan I cover in the crash course, pun intended 🙂

Someone yesterday I spoke with said that in the USA alone already had 10,000 people die just from common influenza, yet here we are freaking out over 17 dead in the USA. Sure, its bad news, but the common sicknesses for older citizens makes coronavirus seems a little blown out of proportion. There are conspiracy theories out there and this could be bioweapon which is scary and I am no expert in this field but my sources are not concerned with the Conornavirus. I want to think a cure gets found soon, and if so, the markets will rebound with a vengeance, and we can relax.

In short, if you have lost money with your trading account this year, holding some big losing trades that were big winners just a couple of weeks ago, I think it’s worth joining my trading newsletter so you can stay on top of the markets. I take the loud, emotional, and complex market and deliver simple common sense commentary and a couple of winning trades each month.

My trading is nothing extreme or crazy exciting because I’m not an adrenaline trading junky. I only want to grow my entire portfolio 2-4% a month with a couple of conservative ETF trades and make a 22%-48% return on my capital without the stress of being caught up in this type of market and feeling like I always need to be in a trade.

Happy Trading!

Fear Reaches A Level Seen Only 4 Times Since 2008 – Signature Pattern

Since 2009 the stock market has had for major waves of investor fear (volatility) take place which was in 2010, 2011, 2015, and 2018. Each time the market corrected we saw a drop anywhere from 12% – 18% and both traders and investors became emotional and started selling assets in fear of lower prices. What we are experiencing right now is the same sort of setup once again.

These waves of panic selling are a signature pattern of a mini-crash and they have similar outcomes each time which I will share with you here so you know what to expect and how to trade this rare market condition.

It takes a lot to convince the masses to reach this level of fear. Each of these mini-market crashes there has been some catalysts to further induce fear/selling. This time its Covid-19 that is tipping the scales.

Only two assets have acted as a safe haven which is bonds, and gold. Once again everyone has been piling into these over the past week, and even more so on Friday with Bonds surging 6.5% at one point during the session.

What does it mean when everyone is buying bonds and gold like this?

Where should you put your money to work going forward?
If you are thinking of buying bonds or gold you may want to think again.

Take a look at the charts for gold and bonds below when fear and the volatility index (VIX) have reached the level we experienced last week.

WEEKLY CHART OF GOLD, AND THE VIX PERFORMANCE

The chart below is straight forward. The bottom yellow section is the level of fear (VIX), while the top candlestick chart is the price of gold.

This chart shows what happens to the price of gold when everyone becomes fearful. Gold tends to rally as fear rises and the VIX spikes. But once the VIX has spiked the price of gold will trade sideways for many weeks and eventually have a deeper correction.

While gold could see more fear-based buying in the next week or two I feel most of the upside potential has always been realized and your money will be stuck in an underperforming asset when it could be deployed elsewhere in the market.

WEEKLY CHART OF BONDS (TLT), AND THE VIX PERFORMANCE

The below chart of bonds is a little different in how it reacts to extreme broad-based fear. Bonds tend to trade sideways or higher for a few several weeks and this is because bonds are really the core safe-haven play amount investors and financial advisors.

When extreme fear hits the market and spooks the masses it can take weeks for all those buy and hold investors recognize the market weakness and take action selling their stocks and moving their money into bonds. This buying pressure on bonds is a slow trickle-in effect as advisors have clients call them and demand they put their money into a low-risk investment like bonds.

Bonds do have another interesting twist for last week’s particular price action. Only three times since 2008 have I seen bonds move 20% in value within a short period of time which is what they reached last week. Within  1-3 weeks from a 20%+ gain, the price of bonds has corrected on average 11.5%.

CONCLUDING THOUGHTS:

In short, my 23 years of technical analysis experience in reading charts, and statistical analysis is telling me we should be looking at different asset classes to trade over the next couple of months.

On Friday at the opening bell subscribers and I closed our TLT bond trade for a 20.07% gain. During that time the stock market crashed 14.5% which we avoided because of our technical analysis which closed our long SP500 position before the big drop.

As a technical analysis and trader since 1997, I have been through a few bull/bear market cycles. I believe I have a good pulse on the market and timing key turning points for short-term swing traders.

The US stock market opened Sunday, March 8, 2020, dramatically lower.  Oil collapsed 25% to near $30.  Gold shot higher to levels just above $1700.  All of the major US indexes were lower than 5%.  As of this morning, the US major indexes are lower by 6.40%, and oil down 23%. Bonds are set to open 7-8% higher at this time.

As mentioned in yesterday’s update, we could see metals and miners get hit with margin calls, and silver took a beating last night down over 5%, and miners are down 5% in pre-market, so things could get uglier yet.

The war on oil has officially started. To me, it’s a typical bully/bad guy move. When everyone is bleeding, and in trouble like the financial markets, everyone’s mental state, and our health, the true bullies and bad guys (sharks) come out of the woodwork. Russia is being difficult and will keep production high for oil; the Saudis are giving out hug discounts on oil and jacking up their production to flood the market with their oil and take as much of the market share possibly. When blood is in the water, the sharks attack.

This oil war is going to devastate the USA and Canadian oil sectors and businesses if the price of oil trades between $20-35 per barrel, which I think is what will happen and could last a few years.

The US futures for stock hit a circuit breaker and halted futures trading of the Indexes once a 5% drop took place, but ETF and regular stocks will continue to trade. The next round of circuit breakers are only during regular trading hours and was implemented after the May 10, 2010, flash crash.

This new set of circuit breakers have never been hit before which are:
A drop of 7% stock halt for 15 minutes.
A drop of 13% stocks halt for 15 minutes.
A drop of 20% stocks halt for the rest of the session.

This is a huge breakdown in the US markets and indicates much greater weakness within the global markets and further concern that the COVID-19 virus may continue to disrupt the US and European markets (as well as others).

The potential that multiple billion-dollar disruptions in the US and other foreign markets, including travel, leisure, autos, hospitality, and many others, may see a continued decline in sales and incomes over the next 6+ months.  We don’t believe we will truly understand the total scope of this COVID-19 virus event until possibly well after July 2020.

The crazy part is I’m in a little secluded town in Canada, and people are starting to panic and buy food and toilet paper for their bunker stash. Almost everyone I talked to this weekend while out snowboarding has been affected by manufacturing, trade show cancellations, travel restrictions, etc..  We are in a full out global crisis that seems to affect everyone in some way no matter their location, occupation, or business.

There will be some great opportunities to find and execute incredible trading opportunities – yet the risks are very high right now for volatility and price rotation.  Think of the markets like a body of water in a severe storm.  The waters are very choppy, unstable, and chaotic – just like the markets.

Unless you have the right information, skills, and vehicle to navigate these waters, there is a very high probability that a dangerous outcome could happen. I closed out our last position on Friday with our TLT bond trade for a 20.07% profit and we are 100% cash watching this market VS trying to survive it.

Right now, Cash is king.
Waiting for proper setups and understanding risks is critical.  Timing your entries and targets is critical.  Learning to stay away from excessive risk is essential.

We’ll scan the markets for you and find the best opportunities that set up over the next week.

We appreciate your loyalty and want to continue to deliver superior analysis and research.  Please be well aware that the current market environment is very dangerous for traders.  The VIX recently touched above 50.  We believe it could reach levels above 75~90 still.  These are incredible levels for the VIX.

Gold Sets Up For Another Massive Move Higher

Our research team believes the recent downward price activity in Gold and Silver are indicative of past price patterns we saw in Gold over the 2007 to 2012 rally.  Throughout almost every rally in precious metals (Gold), there have been a number of moderate to serious price corrections taking place within that extended rally.  The current downside move is moderately small compared to historical price rotation in Gold and potentially sets up a massive upside potential rally to levels above $2100 per ounce.

WEEKLY GOLD PRICE PATTERN FROM 2007 – 2017

This chart, below, highlights the downside price rotation that took place just before and as the US stock markets collapsed in late 2008 and 2009.  Notice how Gold collapsed nearly 28% right as extreme market weakness began to become present in the US stock market.  Then, pay attention to how Gold rallied from $730 in multiple upside price legs to a peak just below $1900 – well above 110%.  Could the same pattern already be setting up in 2020?

WEEKLY GOLD CHART TREND IS CLEARLY UP

This current Gold chart highlights what we believe is a similar price pattern where Gold collapsed as the downturn in the US stock market took place between October 2018 and December 2018.  Subsequently, Gold then rallied to levels nearing the previous peak levels (near $1380), then rallied even further to $1540.  We believe the current downside price rotation is similar to the downside price rotation that took place in August/Sept 2010 – just before Gold rallied from $1050 to $1890 (+85%).  If a similar type of rally were to take place from the current $1587 lows, the peak price of Gold may be near $2935.

GOLD/SILVER RATIO WEEKLY CHART SCREAM BARGIN

This last chart highlights the true potential for a Silver rally based on historical levels of the Gold to Silver Ratio.  There has never been a time in history since 1990) that the Gold to Silver ratio has been this high (93.9).  Historically, traditional levels are closer to 74~76.  If gold rallies above $2100 and the Gold to Silver ratio contracts to the historical 74 to 76 level, Silver will likely rally to levels above $40 to $50 per ounce.  If gold rallies to our projected peak level of $2935 and the ratio reverts, Silver could rally to levels well above $65 per ounce.

This downside move in both Gold and Silver are an incredible opportunity for skilled traders.  Don’t miss the opportunity to get into a precious metals position near these levels – before the real rally begins.

As a technical analysis and trader since 1997, I have been through a few bull/bear market cycles. I believe I have a good pulse on the market and timing key turning points for both short-term swing trading and long-term investment capital. The opportunities are massive/life-changing if handled properly.

Gold Rallies As Fear Take Center Stage

Gold has rallied extensively from the lows near $1560 over the past 2 weeks.  At first, this rally didn’t catch too much attention with traders, but now the rally has reached new highs above $1613 and may attempt a move above $1750 as metals continue to reflect the fear in the global markets.

We’ve been warning our friends and followers of the real potential in precious metals for many months – actually since early 2018.  Our predictive modeling system suggests Gold will rally above $1650 very quickly, then possibly stall a bit before continuing higher to target the $1750 range.

The one thing all skilled traders must consider is the longer-term fear that is building in the markets.  Many traders are concerned about the global economy with the Coronavirus spreading economic worries throughout Asia, Japan, and Europe.  We believe this fear will push precious metals continually higher over the next 24+ months with a real upside target above $2100 eventually.

Right now, skilled traders need to understand that wave after wave of higher price rotation will continue to happen in Gold and Silver.  If you missed the $1450 level and missed the $1550 level, this is your time to attempt to find your entry point near $1650 or below that level.  Ultimately, real fear has yet to result in a parabolic rally in Gold and Silver – but it is likely going to happen within the next 24+ months.

As skilled traders, our Fibonacci price modeling system is suggesting that any price rotation below $1550 would be an excellent buying opportunity.  These levels really depend on where the current rally ends and what happens in the global markets over the next 60+ days.

Less than 7 days ago, we published this research article suggesting that our ADL predictive modeling system was telling us that Gold would rally above $1650 within 15 to 30 days.  It is very likely this rally will start a multiple-leg upside price advance in precious metals where Silver will finally breach the $20 to $21 level as Gold advances higher.

February 13, 2020: PREDICTIVE MODELING SUGGESTS GOLD WILL BREAK ABOVE $1650 WITHIN 15~30 DAYS

Once fear really enters the markets, we’ll see huge sector rotation and a massive price reversion event take place.  Historically, Gold and Silver will react to this move, but the parabolic price move in precious metals will come 4 to 6+ months after the reversion event in the global markets.  So, from a historical standpoint, any entry-level near current price levels is exceptional.

Trust us, you really don’t want to miss this next move in precious metals.  Our Fibonacci price modeling system and Adaptive Dynamic Learning modeling system are suggesting price levels above $2400 as an ultimate upside price target for Gold.
